We rely on it heavily as we get our phone, internet and Wi-Fi calling on our mobiles through it. We live in a black spot so can not be contacted at home till it is restored.

Instead it got rolled out first in Tasmania.

Richard Alston was asked which parts of Telstra he had sold, Was it Yellow Pages or the GSM network, etc, his eyes glazed over and he confessed he sold a 30% tranche of THE ******* LOT. Which is why NBN needed to build a new fixed network at huge public cost.

SpaceX has made it clear that its satellite-to-mobile network (Starlink Direct to Cell) needs guaranteed access to Australia’s wireless airwaves to launch its full services — including voice and data for phones directly from satellites. But Telstra and TPG argue that giving one provider priority access risks limiting competition and could lock in high prices for consumers. A TPG spokesperson said competitive auctions are important because market concentration is a real risk if policy settings favour a single operator. They stressed Australia should encourage multiple satellite providers and business models, not entrench dominance by any one company, whether traditional mobile or satellite-based. Telstra and TPG’s stance comes amid broader debate about how Australia will manage spectrum — a critical resource that carries all mobile voice, text and data traffic. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has been consulting on future spectrum licences and how to allocate them fairly as older licences expire and new services are developed. All telcos and ISPs needed to connect to Telstra landline. Telstra usually took a long time to find the keys to exchanges when other telcos asked to connect. 3/8
