@dmccann65 @Ballyurra @slsandpet Thanks for the NBN rant, I’m well aware of its shortcomings.. but she asked for an alternative provider since Telstra are refusing to help her perform any troubleshooting. Superloop will help her with this

@_thomasparkes @NBN_Australia Yep - starlink (and similar services in US) appear to be the primary use case. It's a per-device service; I'm using it to access a Raspberry Pi server. Setup involves installing wireguard and configuring a tunnel to the endpoint.

@QuentinDempster But people can still purchase Starlink like they can now? I mean it is always good to have a choice. And knowing NBN pricing Starlink will probably turn out to be a cheaper & faster service.

@CasFarmerCD @NtDrifter If the Gov just made it easy for all LEO ISP's to access the ground network access equally and gave people any assistance with associated hardware costs directly, not through a NBN style company the market would sort itself out.

@QuentinDempster Problem is Quentin many of us Don’t have NBN towers. My choice is a Telstra WIFI - massive delay buffeting in peak times Optus WIFI same problem. After extended time with internet Zi ordered a Starlink last week. Our service is no where near as good as 15 years ago.

@QuentinDempster Starlink is Great! I wouldn't consider switching back to NBN, I get it will never be as good as Starlink

🇦🇺 Starlink Ground Stations and the NBN Based on the available information, it appears that Starlink ground stations are not directly linked to the NBN (National Broadband Network). While some Starlink ground stations may be located near NBN infrastructure, the connection to the internet is facilitated through various backhaul methods, which may include fiber optic cables or other private networks, rather than directly through the NBN. Starlink ground stations serve as critical nodes in the Starlink network, connecting the satellite constellation to the global internet. These stations use high-speed fiber optic cables to connect to data centers, ensuring low latency and high-speed data transfer. The exact backhaul methods used by Starlink are not explicitly detailed, but it is known that Starlink operates as an independent ISP and has its own network infrastructure. In summary, while there may be some overlap in infrastructure locations, Starlink ground stations are not directly linked to the NBN. Instead, they utilize their own backhaul connections to provide internet services.

@theoztrucker From what I understand they use Amazon's satellite then send it through the NBN network. Digital ID come to mind?

@QuentinDempster Why wouldn’t customers cut out the bloated, expensive middleman (NBN) and just go directly to Amazon/starlink?

@QuentinDempster The service isn't even out, and how do you know they quality of the service. Also, complaining about starlink being out for 2 hours when NBN goes out for days is funny.
