Joshua McKinnon (@corduroy) reported from Blaxland, New South WalesIs Telstra mobile really crap in the Mountains, or is it because I’m using a cheap reseller? I can rarely watch a 3m video without massive pauses, even with 2-3-4 bars of reception.

Shaun Ewing (@swewing) reported from Glenbrook, New South WalesWith @Telstra being down there’s no EFTPOS at my local shops. Couldn’t get cash from any of the ATMs as they’re all down too. Managed to withdraw cash at the post office to pay for groceries. Thanks for still providing that service @auspost - we’re not going to be cashless yet.

Poyta! 🇦🇺 (@gxqxxkns5n) reportedGot the corporate bs apology email from Telstra. I laugh when CEO says how serious they take things - but not serious enough to provide credit. FOS.BTW absolutely crap service in Darwin, Kununurra let alone anywhere in between. Looking forward to mobile direct to Starlink.

David Havyatt (@havyatt) reported@ACCAN_AU @smh @swan_legend How is Telstra expected to work out the AMOUNT of compensation otherwise? The word ‘compensation’ does not mean ‘fine’ and as a Telstra customer I don’t want them being over generous….because I will be paying for it.
-
John Young (@JohnYoung146083) reported@NewsTongueX Are @Telstra suggesting that all 3 network time servers were/are hosted in the same physical chassis? Seems fundamentally flawed? Also, do they not continually scan for vulnerabilities and end of service? @sarahinthesen8 something sounds fishy.

Karen Smith (@mintomusings) reportedI get no telco can guarantee no network outages, but they can guarantee replacing ageing equipment when it’s needed. @Telstra hasn’t explained WHY it decided not to replace a $30k piece of infrastructure, particularly when it’s responsible for maintaining the Triple 0 network.

David Havyatt (@havyatt) reported@FKhnopff @Democracy_Duck @ABCmediawatch You are right that Labor privatised Qantas and CBA. But neither of these had a specific service obligation, unlike Telstra. Yes some in Labor were considering Telstra sale, but it never became policy. 3/3

Nigel Withers (@MajorBlipvert) reported@VoteLewko Telstra is probably still carrying decades of tech debt. That old stuff has a bad habit of biting from time to time.
-
katie 🍞 (@katiebecker16) reported@Kate3015 @Oz_Mocker Albanese also says that he and Telstra orchestrated the outage to help 16s stay off social media

Drake | Strategy (@mitri_drake) reported@r3tarddownunder @MehreenFaruqi Do not listen to this idiot. Privatisation has not failed. Privatisation reduced bloated government inefficiency and is the reason why ASIC, Telstra and many other organisations have streamlined their bloated costs. If you want to blame someone for Telstra’s issues, blame the exponential growth in Australia’s population. This has driven demand for services far beyond current supply. Infrastructure upgrades require resources — time, money and a capable workforce — to meet the new demand curve. Infrastructure does not magically appear just because something is suddenly managed by a corporation instead of the government.

ARTCvan 🍉 (@ARTCvan) reported@Naymmm_ @stupidtechtakes *actually the governments fault for whatever stupid reason, they forced Telstra/TPG/Optus to do these blanket bans on VoLTE capable devices if they weren’t sold locally for whatever reason

MestaTee (@Toni_cious) reportedWhy you should avoid Buying a Locked iPhone. Most iPhone vendors do not take out the time to explain to their customers why they should not buy a locked iPhone despite the price difference between the same iPhone model and same storage. This is what every iPhone customer must know about locked iPhones. Locked iPhones are locked to one carrier (e.g Verizon, Telstra, Vodafone) these are like MTN,Glo and Airtel here in Nigeria. These iPhones are Sold by a carrier with a network lock, meaning you can only use the iPhone with their network as a means to protect their investments. These carriers subsidizes the iPhones and lets you pay over a 12 or 36 months period depending on the plan. So only their networks work on the iPhones. Locked iPhones only accept the original carrier’s sim unless unlocked. They cannot be used with local networks e.g A locked AT&T iPhone cannot accept local sims like MTN or Glo. They have very low resale value. Now most vendors do not explain all this to their customers, they let them buy locked iPhones which would definitely give them issues later and upon return, charge them for the iPhones to get unlocked which in most cases are temporary solutions as the iPhones would still remain locked later, so buying them are generally a loss for the customer. Always insist on buying a Factory Unlocked (FU) iPhone no matter the price difference and persuasion from the vendor. Hope this helps someone out there.
