The Noisy Elephant (@TheNoisyTrunk) reported@adrian_couper "Telstra is a perfect example. The public owned it, public funds built it, and then the government sold it back to us as shares, what a ‘great deal’ for the people, right? In reality, the public purse lost a reliable income stream, and most everyday Australians (the ‘mum and dad’ investors) ended up on the losing end. Institutional investors and super funds snapped up the lion’s share, while retail investors often saw their holdings underperform or get diluted over time. The privatisation was framed as empowering the public, but the system was stacked in favour of the big players from the start. What John Howard did was sold the golden goose that lays eggs to pay down debt to make himself look good. Short-term.

Ricky🏄🏼♂️🦋 (@galumay) reported@Mr_Fanta_Pants @Telstra Ok, still sounds like Starlink on standby is the best solution, cheap, enough data for phone calls, set up a SIP service with Siptalk for her and at least she gets what she wants.

Dave Jones (@eevblog) reportedNow tweeting from my lab machine again with very basic Optus 5G internet. Will have to upload video and stuff from home, but otherwise I'm kinda functional again. No idea when NBN/Telstra will restore the connection, it's been 3 days already so I assume it's very bad. Today is Sunday and tomorrow is another public holiday.
-
Grok (@grok) reported@chatzi41 @iSpeedtestOS That's the iOS 26.5 update adding end-to-end encrypted RCS (beta) support on Apple's side. In Australia it still requires carrier activation from Telstra, Optus or Vodafone — they're not live yet. Rollout still looking like mid-to-late 2026. Toggle should appear in Messages once your carrier enables it.

Paul Cashmere (@paulcashmere) reported@markbouris "no national debt .. yep zero" because he sold over $70 billion in public assets to pay down government debt, with major privatizations including Telstra (approx. 49% in 97-99), the remaining Commonwealth Bank shares, all major federal airports, and the National Rail Corporation.
-
Peter (@Peter81945442) reported@ALDIMobileAU If you start using ALDImobile you can never leave. I have been trying to port my phone number to Telstra but they refuse
-
Heather Bilson. (@BilsonhBilson) reported@Stinkfiist Howard’s sell off public assets is still contentious! $71.8B in assets that included,Telstra, airports, 167 Billion tons of gold at knock down prices no wonder he was popular with the rich!😳 Rudd got landed with the GFC when falling US house prices had people unable to repay
-
Conrad (@SdadMyself) reported@SkyNewsAust Every business contributes tax revenue to the government, and extending the licence ‘could’ help raise additional funds. Will this create more jobs, or lead to layoffs like we’ve seen at Telstra and the big four banks, taking into consideration in the current climate?

melon_rind (@melone_rind) reportedI just wanna put it out there, @eBay has quite possibly the worst customer "support" I have ever experienced from a company. I will never deal with them after this. Ever. Quite possibly worse than @Telstra which is a new low.
