  Is Telstra mobile really crap in the Mountains, or is it because I’m using a cheap reseller? I can rarely watch a 3m video without massive pauses, even with 2-3-4 bars of reception.

  With @Telstra being down there’s no EFTPOS at my local shops. Couldn’t get cash from any of the ATMs as they’re all down too. Managed to withdraw cash at the post office to pay for groceries. Thanks for still providing that service @auspost - we’re not going to be cashless yet.

  @Matt_Camenzuli I report to you sleeping in my car using a Telstra pay phone free Internet hotspot. **** is far far far more dire than most wish to wake up to. I see it every night when others are comfy in bed in a home. Far more people are living tough than anyone realises — they ‘come out’ once people ‘go in’ — because otherwise they get told to move on. And they’re gone in the am before people know. SEVERE HARD TIMES are here.

  @geofiasco @DHughesy @aaronsmith Aside: Whether the Telstra sale was ultimately a windfall is contested. It raised $60bn to sell the assets, then we spent $60bn on NBN Co just to regain access to the assets sold and duplicate/upgrade the network we sold - and Telstra has paid something like $80-85bn in shareholder dividends along the way. In many respects, NBN shouldn't exist. It should have been the $80-85bn in "shareholder dividends" to the Public Owner that paid for the fibres to be laid - not a $60bn investment after a $60bn sale. But NBN was forced to be created after a now-shareholder-owned Telstra responded to how it might build a national broadband network with a non-compliant 12 page letter effectively saying "we won't - the copper wires are our privately-owned monopoly and we want to protect our market monopoly".

  @CC68891975 @SistaRuthDOPD those of us who live where the threat is real now face summer without even basic telecommunications 4G's terrible Telstra contractor trying to fix landlines, out for more than a month, agreed VicEmergency requires data on just for alerts no nbn no wifi hope the new system works

  So the government can spam all our phones but they can’t stop the curry muncher scammers from calling us under the pretence of - solar panels, batteries, Telstra tech support, ANZ Bank security executive - lol that last one was hilarious. given I knew head of security of a large corporation and nobody in head office would be calling customers.   @deborahbrian Me. Probably due to Telstra black-out/inteferance from Pitch Black... I suppose defence (spelt with a 'c' cookers) takes precedence over Emergency Alerts? 🤔
