It’s taken 53minutes for a Telstra live chat representative to tell me that the fault is with my modem.... God I hope that’s the worst of it.

@dilemski @Telstra Yeah I know. After 4 days it’s still not lit. I’m using my mobile as a hotspot. Thankfully @telstra are “working on it” *insert rage-filled sarcasm here*. I should have switched to @Optus instead of trusting Telstra to provide a decent service. I’m sure they’ll charge me for it

@Telstra_news @TelstraEnt @Telstra are usually pretty quick to contact you when you don’t pay for their service...but they’re pretty bloody slow when their service sucks and you make multiple requests for assistance. Cmon, it’s 2019 and a week w/out internet shouldn’t happen

@Telstra is the best example in the history of time of a business that takes the piss because they have a total monopoly of a market and therefore know they have to do **** all and will still keep customers and it’s not even close!!

NBN down 😑. No idea why and earliest technician available from @NBN_Australia @Telstra is 48 hours from now. Dreading 2 days of @zoom_us calls on 4G now 🥺! Crappy telco infrastructure is probably the single biggest deal breaker to remote work in Australia.

@Telstra our internet was disconnected in error when we transfer to NBN, first order was cancelled, spent 1 hour to put 2nd order, promised a fast track and 4G to be on asap, now 2 days in, still nothing, and 2nd order could not be found by your customer rep. What a joke!

ok ok, so here goes Once upon a time, Adrian worked at a start-up network provider. They had a 512KBit frame relay link from Sydney, Australia to California, USA via MCI, a 2MBit E1 to Telstra for Australian traffic, and eventually had a satellite bearer on PAS-2.

@wyndhamvic @murpharoo There are arseholes in every line of work, but I'm pretty sure people at Telstra and Woollies aren't slitting kids' throats or drinking from their prosthetic limbs. My point was that it's wrong to be there; that comes from the top. That wrongness filters down.

@Telstra over 6 hours waiting on hold the phone (with no answer) and many hours with your in app chat service and no progress on a broken internet connection. Is there another way to get assistance?

So, ISPs would buy downlink bandwidth from this company and use their existing Telstra service for uplink. Back in 1997, Telstra /only/ charged 19c/megabyte for downloaded traffic. Uplink traffic was unmetered/free. (As a side note, this changed a couple years after this.)
