@JelCastragigo @LesStonehouse I did that as well for Optus. Home phone and Optus tv plans. Also falsely advertised as wages. Lasted two weeks. Made 3 sales and never paid at all. Scam.

A friend got this statement from @Optus (hasn't been a customer for 3 years) and it looks like they're going with the whole "You're long expired CC details weren't exposed, just everything else required to commit identity fraud, all good". #OptusHack #securitybreach #databreach

@emmaandollie @Optus Current Optus customer, yet to receive 'the email'. But regardless: cannot reward corporate negligence; looking to change carriers asap.

I’m guessing whoever obtained all of the Optus data wanted to narrow down the list to customers who still had an active account before offering it for sale on the dark net and has already conducted a huge spam campaign

@ClareONeilMP Optus has the details of many people who have purchased a phone without a contract and have moved or do not have an email address, how will these people be contacted? We need a reissue of documents for impacted people to avoid some of the potential problems.

@anthonyspiteri Agreed. As a broad comment, information security defence is hard. Systems are complicated. Mistakes happen. Everyone tries their best. There are a lot of people at Optus who feel terrible right now.

New twist in the #optus hack: heard from frontline call centre staff - who have also had their data stolen - that the telecom has been swamped with complaints through its online form and are being made to call each complainant to "resolve the issue". 1/
