@thegoodhamish @cameronwilson Apparently Australian anti-terror laws required it be kept, if so, Optus was Just Following Orders here. They’re still not off the hook, but the blame goes to govt as well (as always, government is more often the problem than the solution here).

@Optus @RunnerSA18 I am absolutely livid 😡 my 86 yo mother and I are two of your victims! How do we change our DOB, passport and DL #’s seeing as you practically gave them to criminals! Not to mention the time, stress and money it will cost even if we can get new ID 😤 fix this!

Hey @Optus are you putting a bar on all numbers being ported without in person verification.. or do we have to ring your poor call centre staff? #OptusHack

@danilic I’m a former Optus customer - got this.. The information which has been exposed is your name, date of birth, email associated with your former account, and the number of the ID document you provided such as drivers licence or passport number.

@NewtonMark @AlboMP Fair enough. This is all on Optus, but while the metadata requirements are shocking and should never have been implemented (I doubt they're even useful), they are not the cause of this. From what I've seen reported, the recording of these details precede metadata laws.

@NicGough75 @Optus @RunnerSA18 What’s extremely vague was Optus confirming what they are doing to stop our leaked data from being used at all. They need to contact Veda to apply a hold on our credit files for unauthorised financial applications, contact each state Road Transport Authority & issue new ID’s

@loz_obi @Jeremy_Kirk @OAICgov I’m not defending them however there’s a lot of ppl out there getting multiple smartphones, tablets etc delivered every year or so Fraud is a huge problem so they now demand photo ID that has to be matched Optus should be penalised big time for such a cockup, no excuse for this

@emmaandollie @DrKate_Miller @Optus Yes, the Optus customer interface is terrible, but I’d always managed to find out what I needed without using it much.
