So the answer to the @Optus breach by @VicRoads is to issue everyone a second card, effectively 2 CARD # FACTOR AUTHORISATION which will need to later be quoted to companies needing license info. Looking forward to the day I have a full deck of License cards. #OptusDataBreach

@tanner_lian @Optus And a data retention problem. I presume they had the data because they collect all the ID for opening accounts etc. And they probs keep it because it's too much work to store, manage and dispose of it properly. Is my guess, anyway

@DrKate_Miller @Optus Optus will be paying. If the govt pays, optus will be sent a bill. If the customer pays, optus will reimburse the customer.

@joshgnosis Fair, but its hard to get a straight answer on what to do as a result of this. Wait around for this free sub to a credit monitoring service? I'm going to apply for a new drivers license number, but I'd love some clarity around best next steps (and for Optus to lead on that!)

@sem4peter no - because amaysim subscriber info is on a different server - all that Optus sees is that it's an amaysim number and they just let your calls and messages go through their network, but they can't access any data other than maybe which tower you ping - that's it

@Gergyl Not just Optus have weak ICT. Consulting to @Telstra and their eCom LOLO was poorly performing. Wanted server upgrade, but I blamed code. Team uncoop, so logged into Oracle to pull stats (guessed admin pswd: "changeoninstall"). Cache miniscule, no stmt reuse. Took a year to fix.
