For my circumstances, the optus breach couldn’t have happened at a better time. It got the whole country focussed on the bad idea of collecting id data and giving it to just anyone with zero care or oversight. Pity it wasn’t back in March though.

@hughriminton @10NewsFirst And what about SIM reseller companies who used the #Optus network? Did they give Optus our details? Ie, #iinet used the Optus network until recently. Did they ever share customer data & ID’s with Optus?

  • JoeBlackCanFO Msf Boreman (@JoeBlackCanFO) reported

@abcnews As an ex @Optus customer who can't remember what identifying documents I used at sign up, I would appreciate an email from Optus advising if I do not need to replace my Medicare, Licence and Passport.

  • Ray_Kassar Ray Kassar (@Ray_Kassar) reported

@VictorDominello That's going to be an issue, since some people like myself have changed their contact details sonce we were with Optus.

  • J_MC_R ThePop (@J_MC_R) reported

For the past month, I have been receiving SMS's from Optus for another person's account with details. I'm not an Optus customer. I live overseas but have an AUS mobile number. #OptusDataBreach

I just have to say that the staff at Optus Airport West, Vic are really helpful. They cannot do enough to help us. #OptusDataBreach #optusbreach @Optus

  • acmadotgov ACMA (@acmadotgov) reported

@NewtonMark @Optus Hi Mark, a 100 point ID check has never been required for prepaid mobiles and telcos are prohibited from recording and keeping the identifying number of a government document under the Prepaid Determination. 1/2

@AlboMP @SenatorWong @ClareONeilMP All affected just move to provider not running on optus network. Send the message!

  • VermontMelbGuy VermontMelbGuy (@VermontMelbGuy) reported

@jaimyn_m @Optus Also, their test network should not have been open to the internet, and their test database should not have used full unmasked production data.

  • Zemochcb Zem (@Zemochcb) reported

@stilgherrian IMO @Optus should pay EVERY customer compensation of a minimum of $250.00 at least to cover the costs of replacement passports/drivers licences etc...
