Deevitha (@Deevitha_) reportedFinally bit the bullet and got Starlink installed. Highly impressed, the speed and stability runs everything beautifully. We haven’t had a single circle of death anywhere. No more dealing with the shortfalls of NBN lines, poor workmanship and dodgy patchwork repairs. In our exit survey from the old company I let them know the reason for leaving was the poor service the NBN infrastructure can provide, and now that customers have another choice we aren’t limited by the failing system. Highly recommend the switch if you have been considering it.

Robert Wilson (@RobertW51136192) reported@Slav636 @ianclarkeAU True, but I lived in outer Melbourne all my adult life and we always had awful and expensive internet. I’ve moved even further out now, trying to escape people, and the NBN is life changing. Whether city people should be subsidizing us is a fair debate though

Cdbrown (@BrowntownBrew) reported@pigways @Batman2242 NBN satellites have been in service since 2013 that provided a significantly improved service for remote and regional areas. Starlink only arrived in the last few years. Perhaps Amazon was able to meet the design and contract requirements set by #nbn and starlink couldn't.

Even it's rollout was ill considered, eg shutting down the interim satellite during the wet season 😳 Specifically what NBN requirements can't be met by starlink ? 🤔 Starlink has ~250k residential subs, 350k total. NBN 300k total.

Raymond McKeown (@RaymondKeown3) reported@Rexdinasaur I worked with Conroy on the original NBN & built the first site in Kiama, it was a disaster, it cost Transgrid $10 million, not one of NBN management had ever built a network, they had no idea, never understood the unique properties of Fibre cable, Conroy would simply not listen, one deal he did cost $800 million as a stuff up, I walked away & said to my people, everyone of our competitors will chase this, lets chase the business they ignore.

It operated well, for over 65 years, even on iron age Copper, before being sent into the cloud.

alicefarquharson (@alicefarquson) reported@oscarcsims also very confusing policy/reg space. govt essentially renationalised Telstra infrastructure in leasing a bunch of its assets to the NBN. yet Telstra still runs emergency services, payphones, landlines - not NBN. minimal economic incentives, maximal telco corporate welfare

pigways (@pigways) reported@Batman2242 Much worse. Starlink is an infinely better service; higher speeds, low latency. NBN satellite cross subsidy alone is more than a starlink subscription. NBN satellites are EOL, they've contracted Amazon's Kuiper for replacement rather than proven starlink 🤪 They hate Elon
