Most people want access to contest but don’t want to support me as a writer, because they expect everything on the Internet for free. They don’t realise writers have bills to pay, including @NBN_Australia!

  @geofiasco @DHughesy @aaronsmith Aside: Whether the Telstra sale was ultimately a windfall is contested. It raised $60bn to sell the assets, then we spent $60bn on NBN Co just to regain access to the assets sold and duplicate/upgrade the network we sold - and Telstra has paid something like $80-85bn in shareholder dividends along the way. In many respects, NBN shouldn't exist. It should have been the $80-85bn in "shareholder dividends" to the Public Owner that paid for the fibres to be laid - not a $60bn investment after a $60bn sale. But NBN was forced to be created after a now-shareholder-owned Telstra responded to how it might build a national broadband network with a non-compliant 12 page letter effectively saying "we won't - the copper wires are our privately-owned monopoly and we want to protect our market monopoly".

  @Riogallica @nbn @Starlink The only problem with starlink is they can put the price up any time they feel, I was with them 2 months and they upped the price. If you want to go elsewhere in under 12 months you have to pay for the hardware, around $500 I think. Having said that, the service is ok.

  @LeeroyLives @AngusTaylorMP So looking at that graph, the trajectory of expanding debt started under rudd and gillard and never went down Sounds about right. Looks to start that trajectory after the nbn started construction and ndis came about.

  @p_terg IT ordeal 😵‍💫 They got the NBN on today. Box nowhere near the computer and computer doesn’t have a wifi adapter. So I did the dash down the road and got them a 10m Ethernet cable and away they go.

  @basespanker @Batman2242 That was a fttn upgrade with Telco support, but libs called it fraudband due to the minor upgrade so it got scrapped and years later the #nbn was formed to rollout fibre to 93% of premises. LNP got in and decided to do fraudband

  @TopherField NBN will pale in comparison to the data centre **** show. Elon has spoken of SpaceX’s new data centre satellite constellation that won’t require water for cooling or electricity. But we’ll race ahead and ruin neighborhoods and farmland building irrelevant infrastructure anyway.

  @AnthonyDonB @Starlink Latency is terrible - it works but if you can get fibre / nbn - stick with that - even Elmo says it can’t compete with cable in cities
