  @BeauGiles Typically, no. For the cost of a backup device/SIM/NBN or even Starlink, it would pay for itself in an hour of an outage like this!

  Our nbn internet/phone service isnt working. A @Optus techician was sent to my home to find out why we dont have nbn internet. He told me there is something wrong with the fibre optic internet cable. The cable brings the internet to our home.

  @UrbanHubbard @Batman2242 Turnbull botched it. The original fibre and fixed wireless sections of the NBN were worth doing. Switching to Fibre to the Curb was an expensive mistake that has already needed replacing in most areas. This isn’t a left/right issue, and that’s not my point anyway. You missed the core of my post. The NBN was and still is a good idea. It just needed far better design than the “back of a napkin” version under Rudd, and Turnbull shouldn’t have messed around with the plan the way he did. I worked with people who installed the cabnets during the transition and saw exactly what changed inside them. With over 20 years in the IT industry, I know what I’m looking at. My actual point is that comparing the NBN to Starlink is unfair. It’s like comparing the entire fixed telephone network to mobile phones in the 1990s. Mobiles were revolutionary, but they didn’t replace the fixed network they complemented it.

  @eddit0r @OperationalInc1 Hey wait, if I live in an estate/apartment building that has non-NBN fibre and Telstra don't sell services on it, and I call them to order my USO-guaranteed home phone service and they say no, can I sue them?

  @olsod45 @BobBurn97207272 @R64862Rvan And a 20 billion dollar annual interest bill and the debt still growing unabated. THE reason your lifestyle is cratering. We are not America slick. That debt is all Labor's. When you announce major infra structure and I mean major! With zero funding put in place to fund it. As your arse is being shown the door. Which Labor does every time and requiring some else to find the money. Then your always going to be working from behind. We were debt free as Howard left office. Then along came Rudd with the NBN and Gillard with the NDIS. Announced with massive fanfare and zero funding. Granted Morrison and the idiot Turnbul didn't help either by throwing money at them. We are heading for a recession (we had to have) but you appear to have your head ensconced in a very dark place.

  @strangerous10 A lot of people forget the NBN was in part to shift the fixed broadband service monopoly from Telstra.

  A guy moved into a new apartment. Only “official” internet was FTTN NBN — $90/month for a pathetic 30 Mbps down max. He called Telstra and Optus. Both said “5G Fixed Wireless not available at your address.” He checked a cell tower map anyway. Half a dozen towers within a couple km. Bought a GL.iNet GL-X3000NR 5G router + built a DIY 4x4 MIMO LPDA external antenna. Result? 800 Mbps download / 170 Mbps upload. 25x faster. $75/month. Same building. Here’s exactly how he did it 🧵

  @SharkaByrne @newscomauHQ I paid extra to keep it at the time, so it would be accessible when nbn goes down. Or so I thought. Not sure what I paid extra for ( possibly another outlet )but it didn’t work, totally useless when it’s down. So much for progress.

  @B_e_n_n_y @r0ck3t23 It’s already obsolete. If you have decent 5G it’s light years ahead of NBN. Most cities don’t have proper 5G though. They think they do but it’s awful pretty much everywhere except Gold Coast.
