  @geofiasco @DHughesy @aaronsmith Aside: Whether the Telstra sale was ultimately a windfall is contested. It raised $60bn to sell the assets, then we spent $60bn on NBN Co just to regain access to the assets sold and duplicate/upgrade the network we sold - and Telstra has paid something like $80-85bn in shareholder dividends along the way. In many respects, NBN shouldn't exist. It should have been the $80-85bn in "shareholder dividends" to the Public Owner that paid for the fibres to be laid - not a $60bn investment after a $60bn sale. But NBN was forced to be created after a now-shareholder-owned Telstra responded to how it might build a national broadband network with a non-compliant 12 page letter effectively saying "we won't - the copper wires are our privately-owned monopoly and we want to protect our market monopoly".

  @MichaelRuyg yep, when they built the NBN fixed wireless tower, that carries optus and vodafone as well, it had a backup generator. then the tower got "upgraded" with 6 months of regular outages and then next power outage we discovered the backup generator and the ability to call 000 was gone

  @TopherField NBN will pale in comparison to the data centre **** show. Elon has spoken of SpaceX’s new data centre satellite constellation that won’t require water for cooling or electricity. But we’ll race ahead and ruin neighborhoods and farmland building irrelevant infrastructure anyway.

  @Mick55629336 @LNPvoterfail @SistaRuthDOPD On the surface that does indeed ring true and in principal you really aren't incorrect. Problem is the councils are broadly right to refuse. Australia has 3 levels of government of which they are all disconnected. The feds hold the purse strings, the states build everything the councils regulate on a local level. We have migration today because the federal government doesn't have to eat the cost or suffer the consequences directly. Building up not out is in fact good urban planning. The problem is that is not only not what is going to happen. But structurally as it stands that is practically impossible. Since to make this actually work you would have to move away from car dependency into walkable cities PT and the rest of that. All of this is going to cost money and the federal government is being crushed alive by non means or capacity tested entitlement programs. Extremely expensive and inefficient road infrastructure a poorly executed nbn(thanks lnp). A deeply outdated and small railway network with mixed gauges. Along with a very very expensive electrical grid. Effectively the federal government is out of action in this regard. Because of what are deeply systemic failures allowed to compound upon each other. They can't spare the cash required to execute upon building up rather than out. State governments are forced to absorb these rent seeking migrants. Attempting to build housing on infrastructure they cannot afford upgrade designed around medium to low density housing. While councils being mostly directly connected to all of this are sometimes inclined to play the veto card as they should. This entire migration program can be made to work that is true but practically that is impossible. Thus it really should just be canceled as there are more critical systemic problems we face.

  @TTAlwaysWins NBN came and told me that it was my network, not the NBN. This is utter BS as the blue DSL light flashing has nothing to do with my network.

  We're paying progressively more taxes, and our services are decreasing. We just got a generic letter telling us our landline phone will be disconnected in 7 months. We used to have copper line which provided a highly reliable service in emergencies, whether power and internet was on, or not. I recall ringing a (surviving) neighbour in the middle of the Marysville 2009 Black Saturday fires. We had a chat while his smoke alarm was going off and the fire was raging outside. Phone through broadband was hopeless whenever the power or internet went down, which happens frequently. Mobiles are useless whenever the internet goes down, and not long after the power goes off. But those copper wire phones were fantastic. You could actually ring the electricity company when the power was off, and tell them that the power was off and could they fix it. I'm not joining the nbn.

  @TopherField I signed up to Starlink precisely because of the NBN, and the way broadband is handled in this country. Got a technical issue? 9 times out of 10, NBN need to fix. But there is no direct line to them - you have to use your ISP as a middle man to send messages back and forth. Something gets lost in translation, start over. It is an exercise in frustration. The last words I said to my previous ISP ("Aussie" Broadband) was "you just made a very good case for Starlink. Cancel my account" Been on Starlink for almost a year. Not one single drop out, great speeds, even online FPS games run great. TLDR: **** the NBN

Some of 'em have 2 walk 6ks up the road 2 GET MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL. HELLO, HELLO? Oh! It's Labor - NO-ONE ANSWERING! n BOWEN with Yr RENEWABLES CRAP n AI THERE'LL NEVER BE ENOUGH ELECTRICITY 2 SUPPLY ALL REGIONAL HOMES SO THEY CAN HAVE ALL THE DEVICES THEY R ENTITLED 2!
