Kate🦋M© (@Kate3015) reportedThis Labor lot are becoming increasingly unhinged in their public responses. The Telstra network problem this morning is all over the news. Technology fails from time to time. It’s an unfortunate fact of life. Interestingly, I’m a Telstra customer and the outage didn’t affect me. But, in their usual fashion, @AnikaWells and @KristyMcBain have gone into full attack mode. Their criticism of @SenSHenderson is extraordinary. Sarah Henderson acknowledged that she made a test call to confirm the functionality of triple-zero services on her phone, prompting McBain to describe her actions as “absolutely outrageous”. McBain then went further, saying the last thing Australia needed was anyone making test calls to triple-0, adding: “We teach our kids not to prank call triple-0.” She also said: “I think it is absolutely outrageous that the shadow communications minister has been making test calls to triple-0 at a time where we need to make sure that we are doing as many welfare checks as possible and making sure that that network is open to people in emergency situations.” A deliberate, genuine test to confirm whether emergency services are reachable during a major telecommunications outage is plainly not the same as a prank call. Equating the two is a serious distortion of what occurred. What’s truly extraordinary is that, in the middle of a significant network outage, a government minister chose to attack someone for checking whether triple-zero was actually working, rather than focusing on the outage itself.
