@NeddyJes It’s always a bad experience. Australian Federal Police and Australian Cyber Security Centre are working with Optus cyber team to get a resolution.

  • ERN_Malleyscrub Breaking Bread (@ERN_Malleyscrub) reported

@mazt_t @andrea_weymouth But let’s not simply blame the stupid LNP : there are ways to store data safely. #Optus tech geeks must be hopeless. Fresh out of high school or washed up old fools ?

  • GoferCough Gofer Cough (@GoferCough) reported

@CunningInsights Optus should not have retained identification data. Once a new customer is identified, the data used for identification should be purged. Even if it needed to be retained, it should have been encrypted.

@Jeremy_Kirk @BrettCallow Post taken down guys ? Did @Optus pay up?

  • AutumnMandrake Sir Autumn Mandrake (@AutumnMandrake) reported

@Jeremy_Kirk The problem here is that there's no guarantee that this is the hacker who stole the data, or someone who simply bought it from the hacker and is first in to use it to lever a ransom from Optus. And there's no guarantee that they won't sell the data after...

@DaveMilbo Maybe they are the guy from that movie Austin powers “one million dollars…….wait I mean one billion dollars”. Lol So glad I’ve never been an Optus customer

  • JobsenGroth Jobsen Groth 🇦🇺 (@JobsenGroth) reported

@SkyNewsAust Never understood why anyone would sign up for Optus. The company is owned by Singtel (Singapore government does spy and monitor its own telecommunications), it uses Huawei technology, and their marketing campaigns have implied customers are animals. eg. Optus Zoo.

  • trixtah Trix (@trixtah) reported

The sophisticated hack of #Optus data was simply some absolute fkwits making a "test" API open to the internet, linked to PRODUCTION customer records. Inexcusable. If it was some project manager that issued a JFDI, surprise = 0. This is when you email the boss, kids. CYA at least

  • David_Paul_B David P (@David_Paul_B) reported

@joshgnosis Hmm. I am expecting a further follow-up : “Optus is right in what they say. Was most sophisticated attack in history. They is excellent security. Could never be hacked again by normal human. Much easier to hack Telstra, Vodafone. Will do soon. Optus impossible to hack now”

  • karena872000 Karen Canjuga (@karena872000) reported

@peter__kay I’m an Optus customer and seriously annoyed. They can send an sms for late bills but only an email for this huge breach. I had no idea until heard on radio about it Really poor communication
