Dear @Optus it’s been a good 25 years. But, you’re testing us on our changeover to @NBN_Australia Still no internet & 3 no show tech appointments to connect our FTTC so far. Tired of waiting for a tech who never turns up. Now considering what other options are available to us 😕

So what happened? "[It's] still under investigation. However, this breach, like most, appears to come down to human error," an Optus insider told the ABC. They apparently opened up their customer identity database to other systems via API, then failed to secure it.

  • onejvo Jamieson Vincenti O'Reilly (@onejvo) reported

(cust_num) appears to be the Optus Customer Number, (account_num) appears to the Optus Account Number, and (sub_id) the Optus Subscription ID

@doctormcdougall @themiasandrist @Optus Perhaps they are victims of poor staff retention?

Mum got the ******* email. Her personal identification with Optus has been compromised and now we're on a ******* mountain of **** having to lock all her ID down, including credit files WHICH WE DON'T EVEN HAVE, cause god knows who or which cyber criminals now have her identity

  • mvyrmnd Drambusters (@mvyrmnd) reported

@chipswoon @arielbogle Optus had to collect that data because the government forces them to. Should be like the UK where you can buy a functional SIM from a supermarket and not need 100 points of ID to have a phone service

  • SHRIMPMONEYCAP SHRIMPMONEYCAPITAL (@SHRIMPMONEYCAP) reported

@KoparaFallsKid I received their email this afternoon. But I haven’t been with Optus for over 6 months as their service was lousy. So how current are any of their records?

  • MysTOnAir MysT (@MysTOnAir) reported

well ****...just scrollin through the youtube recommendations and saw a video about a data leak from optus

  • sam__rye Sam Rye (@sam__rye) reported

@_sarahbarns @Optus Legally it has to be kept for 6 years, but that obviously doesn’t cover your case. The likelihood is it’s such a pervasive breach and their security protocols are so bad they simply don’t know and have emailed everyone who *could* have been compromised…
