@royfrancisbrown @ssharwood @NBN_Australia @Telstra I thought they acquired it, then realised what a steaming pile of crap it was, and decided not to bother using it. Optus and Telstra cable largely shadowed each other anyway. No point having both for the majority of locations.

@joshh_dp In recent years I’ve gone Optus > Telstra > Voda and I can say that at least Optus tried to come up with compromises whereas Telstra basically told me to suck it up. I haven’t had to seek support from Voda yet.

@leisa @sherifmansour @Telstra @Optus @teltra As a long time customer of both - it's hard to split the difference sometimes. Both treat new customers far better than existing ones.

@Optus hi my nbn is down again this morning. You’re not showing any outages though. It’s becoming a bit of a joke - never know when it’s going to be working.

@ClareONeilMP Optus handling of this has been immature and laughable. Childish even to compare it to “data you would give facebook”. They are gaslighting and playing it down.

@possumbrisbane @Smushster @Jeremy_Kirk This is a terrible take on cyber security and why we need it - and why Optus really needs to explain why they handled our info so poorly. This is like to posting all our private information onto the local notice board in town and then blaming "attack" when someone reads it

@joshgnosis Hey @Optus , here's a script on how to delete someone's personal data. I give it to you for free! You're welcome. DELETE FROM tblCustomer WHERE CUSTOMERID = (insert customer ID here) 🤦
-
Gamer Granny
(@GamerGranny1) reported
Maybe before payment each month @optus needs to declare (on their bill), 'we have not let anyone steal or use your ID or bank details during this billing period'. If this is untrue, all bills are stopped until the customer is guaranteed their ID can't be used by another party.
-
Lee Ryman
(@LeeRyman) reported
@Jeremy_Kirk So a test server had no auth, unobfuscated real customer data, and was accessible from the Net? Multiple failings here. A transparent report by Optus would provide an opportunity to learn from this. We have ATSB reports for major incidents, perhaps CERT should do the same.
-
Byron Kaye
(@byronkaye) reported
The Optus hacker apparently wants payment in cryptocurrency, which is great because it means the cops can narrow it down to four or five males aged 19-26.
-
Tayt Dalzell

@Tweedlebeetle @kcarruthers @Optus Poor advice is added liability. They don’t care about your safety or the breach wouldn’t have occurred due to their negligence.
-
Bryce Undy
(@TechnovateSS) reported
@Jeremy_Kirk If what is being said is true, and as a solution architect I believe it looks very legitimate, then Optus had incredibly poor security practices. There should have been a system equivalent to login credentials and additional controls once accessing the data.
