  • wheelyweb Joe Ortenzi 🇨🇦 🇮🇹 🇦🇺 (@wheelyweb) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Everyone is missing a critical item. Why do telcos need all that info when I can fire up an sms service without it. However. Optus is directly responsible for the data spill, regardless of if it was a hack or a breach. it’s their responsibility to manage security of that data.

  • lyng62 Lyn (aka The Tractor 🚜) (@lyng62) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

@wallyscr Thanks Aaron. I had been considering getting a dongle or a SIM card or something with Optus just to keep the account (been with them nearly 30 years) but recent events have given me bad juju

  • trevorlong Trevor Long (@trevorlong) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

If you thought Optus had moved to a Customer focused approach with this whole data hack - think again. I’ve got details of what I think is the most disgraceful lack of attention to the VERY worst affected customer. Just need time to calm down and write it all down

  • JVizzone John Vizzone (@JVizzone) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Last year I had my identity stolen including drivers licence details changed, partially at the hands of Service NSW. Good luck Optus victims getting your licence changed. Even when they were part of the fraud I’m still waiting for my new licence.

  • miracleboi Alex Dennis🏳️‍🌈🇦🇺 (@miracleboi) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

@optus my mum's NBN FTTC white NBN box will not get any data thru the line. Have been trying all day to get thru to technical support and that line has been "closed" all day and message is hasn't been helpful. She also has a falls monitor which should be connected but it's not

  • emzsuri 𝑬𝒎𝒎𝒂 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒃𝒊 (@emzsuri) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Arrived in BNE and switched my sim to Optus and was welcomed with a message regarding cyberattack on Optus resulting in customer information being stolen. 😳 wow, no firewalls or any contingencies? Shutting down all my Aus Bank accounts 😑

  • wheelyweb Joe Ortenzi 🇨🇦 🇮🇹 🇦🇺 (@wheelyweb) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Hey @guardian : has anyone asked @optus if previous customer data has been deleted? I was once a customer maybe 8 years ago so no idea if they had my data.

  • paulkneipp Paul Kneipp (@paulkneipp) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

@slsandpet With Optus for 10 years. When I moved, I asked them to connect me at the new place. No, they said, we have no service there. Telstra came, the tech pointed and said “that’s an Optus box there”. I was assured that emails would continue for 3 months. Account deleted in 24 hours.

  • 50to39 Donna Longhurst (@50to39) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

@SEggminder @Optus Hackers can duplicate any business header, info, even "security" so closely that it fools a lot of people. They set up their own sites complete with phone numbers. I got hacked that way. I avoid links completely these days. I never call the number sent in these txts or emails.

  • just_brash Justin Brash 🏳️‍🌈🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇦🇺🍸📷🐱 (@just_brash) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Optus CEO has said “this [#optushack] is due to bad actors”. You mean like Tom Cruise?

  • jazza1983 Jarrod McCloughan (@jazza1983) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Hi @Optus I am a former customer of yours. You may have an old email on file for me so you may have not reached me by email if one was sent. Will I be notified by mail if the email bounced back? Thanks

  • IaenCordell Iaen Cordell (@IaenCordell) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

At last I got an answer for my 3G issues, they have switched off 3G 2100MHZ 3G in Artarmon! Now if they just informed the clowns in customer circus, then again Optus have a more current example of not advising customers! <grin>

  • fatinpaisal Fatin Paisal (@fatinpaisal) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

I was trying to change my network provider and was trying to do so on a day before the cyberattack but my user experience to do it was pretty bad, and I opt to stay with Optus. Bad timing. Definitely will change to something else soon.

  • scott86d Scott D (@scott86d) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

I know what's happened with this Optus breach is frustrating for people. However please don't take it out on us working in Service NSW centres. We have instructions at the moment of what we can and cant do in regards to updating your licence.

  • fictillius Sagittarius (Sgr) A* (@fictillius) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

@InsideRetailau @Optus Nothing was broken into, it was left out in the open.

  • renee_glitch Renée (@renee_glitch) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Unusual spam WhatsApp message and unsolicited phone calls since #optusdatabreach count now at 2. Awesome 👍👍 I'm not even a customer anymore. Why did they keep my data? @Optus

  • richramo Richard Ramnac (@richramo) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

My conspiracy theory is that Optus paid the ransom, hence why the hacker deleted the data, the threat revoked, with the hacker's change of heart happening very quickly after the first 10,000 customer details were released. #optusfail

  • just_brash Justin Brash 🏳️‍🌈🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇦🇺🍸📷🐱 (@just_brash) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

Optus has put out a statement addressing the government criticism of the company. As a customer I’m still waiting for any communication from the company at all. Hello @optus, when do you intend to contact customers? #optushack

  • 50to39 Donna Longhurst (@50to39) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

@SEggminder @Optus Probably the small cogs in the chain on the phone not getting all the info from the bosses. Doesn't help situation.

  • immsollawyers (((Anne ODonoghue))) (@immsollawyers) reported from Sydney, State of New South Wales

“While Ms Bayer Rosmarin has claimed Optus was victim of a “sophisticated attack”, the government believes the data breach was more likely down to lax security measures at the telecoms giant.”

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • JuliaOpt Julia Martin (@JuliaOpt) reported

@tassiedad @Optus @acmadotgov Customer of 20 plus years, try to upgrade and at the very end I was told I couldn’t proceed without direct debit. I’m not giving my bank details after a massive data hack. Been paying my bills in advance for years with no issues. Looking for a new provider.

  • GeoffPAus Geoff (@GeoffPAus) reported

@Telstra you just lost a $2000 sale because your customer service is **** - in what world is a 1.5 hr wait to buy a phone outright acceptable🤔 @Optus well done great service and it only took 5 minutes

  • wildebeestz Liam Baker Appreciation Society 🏆🤷‍♂️🏆🏆😥🤬 (@wildebeestz) reported

@VicRoads I received my replacement (Optus data breach) license today and it is identical to my current license except for an "(A)" after the expiry date. WTF?

  • danielpicci8 Daniel Picciotto (@danielpicci8) reported

Just spent the last 2hrs on the phone to @Optus. They were charging me $18 for Apple Music and Sport that I never signed up for AND reduced my monthly data. Tried to resolve it buy paying EXTRA on a new plan and they still couldn’t fix it for me. Great service. #optus

  • w0zr0b w0zr0b 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ (checkmark) (@w0zr0b) reported

For those who don't know, I worked at optus stadium from may to September last year in the kitchens and by God was it a terrible job. Maybe if I was one of the people wearing the yellow shirts it would have been better but no I had to be an orange shirt

  • TStevewalsh Steve Walsh (@TStevewalsh) reported

@kbrspace @eSafetyOffice @Optus That’s all well and good and I don’t mean any harm to them, but they are representing your company in an English market. It reflects poorly on you. Long term business customer here moving elsewhere due to poor experience.

  • JuliaOpt Julia Martin (@JuliaOpt) reported

@Optus @roogirllozz Late fees are the customers issue if not paid on time. If the customer chooses to accept non direct debit fees it should be their choice. Optus you are just making excuses for a poor decision on a payment method that does not suit everyone.

  • LiteGj gjlite (@LiteGj) reported

@ProfilaPrivacy With Profila, the 2 largest consumer-information hacks in Australian history would never have happened, 2022. @medibank @Optus

  • TStevewalsh Steve Walsh (@TStevewalsh) reported

@kbrspace @eSafetyOffice @Optus I’m sorry Kelly, but have you actually tried to use your chat function lately? The support offered is atrocious, takes forever and is being handled by people who cannot comprehend English. 1/2

  • JWatsMSG JWats (@JWatsMSG) reported

@Optus it’d be nice to maybe fix your towers in a timely manner so people can at least make calls! Over two weeks with horrendous service! Even sadder is it took over 24 months of complaints to even start addressing it!
