But my date of birth and phone number hasn’t changed in that time and I obviously can’t change/get a new DOB. It’s just super poor form overall

It’s impractical in the extreme, and would result in older/disabled/non first English speakers not being able to access.

Optus is directly responsible for the data spill, regardless of if it was a hack or a breach. it’s their responsibility to manage security of that data.
