I feel I'm unnecessarily paranoid, but I just saw a tweet from an ex-Optus customer who said although they'd cancelled their account a couple of years ago, they still received an email informing them their info was part of the recent hacked & stolen data as it was kept on file.

@Optus no email from you lot, but heaps of emails from others that I have never heard of. Thanks for nothing !!°

International Crisis Room 360 (@ICR360) reported
The hacker claiming to be behind the cyber attack against Optus has released 10,000 customer records and threatened to leak more if the Australian telecommunication giant refuses to pay them US$1 million in cryptocurrency.

@DaveTaylorNews They just told me that their 'new system' mean Optus subscriptions cannot function without a credit card on file, despite their demonstrable negliglence with customer data but they'll let you cancel. No attempt at customer retention, seems like they're in wind-down mode.

I wonder how many Optus cutomers will now move to a telco more concerned about customer security than profits?

@madwixxy @Optus @Telstra This govt have no intention and no ***** to hold any big business accountable for its errors and omissions

@SydneyEditor1 @jodiehastweeted @Optus That's terrible, you shouldn't be needing to chase this up with them. Are you on a contract? I'm thinking of switching companies due to their lack of response or accountability.

@newscomauHQ So the blatant lies & the gaslighting of customers continues. Why did you not say anything about customer Medicare numbers being compromised as well?? Your behaviour and response after the fact is disgraceful. Heads need to roll & I hope Optus is bleeding shitloads of customers.
