Howard-era asset sales (Telstra etc.) shifted assets to private hands where they often delivered better efficiency and innovation — exactly what boosts productivity. Blaming today's slump on "record low infrastructure spending" 25-30 years ago is the real stretch. Faster broadband, transport, and training matter — but governments have poured billions into infrastructure since then (and states still do). The constraint isn't some 1990s "under-spend"; it's getting value for money, avoiding waste, and prioritising high-return projects over recurrent blowouts. Private sector dynamism, competition, and sensible tax settings deliver productivity far more reliably than more government "facilitation" funded by structural deficits. You know what actually restricts productivity policy? Promising endless spending while ignoring incentives, efficiency, and evidence. Structural deficits today crowd out future options through higher interest and taxes — not the other way around."   @MelPalling @Telstra Hi Ivan, you've clearly never been to Clyde, Victoria. It's a bottomless pit for Service. You cannot get service inside anyone's homes, and once you find a 'service' area, you dare not move, as it will drop straight right out. It's a huge growth area
