@KWF @misullivan Because of people who think pinging a core router is a good idea. It happened at Telstra with the CRS-1 roll out, and caused a PR issue because of the rate limiting. While it’s not sensible, people do it, and a tiny amount of extra hardware in the forwarding ASIC would fix it.
