@cometaj2 @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp No, I'm just giving a counterpoint to your claim. You said that ipv6 was a "monstrosity" and implied that it was not in use because it was too complex. I gave an example of something that was more complex, yet is still in use, therefore proving it's not complexity that is the problem. In fact, ipv6 simplifies a number of things such as removing some header fields. It sounds like you've never read the specification. So do you have any evidence to back up your claims? What is it about ipv6 that is *so* much more complex than ipv4?

@vmfunc @signalapp there is more issues then this with signal. nobofy even mentions the cdn usage actively being used to deanon users via images, the sticker rce thats been working for the last 2 years, syncronization manipulation, the fact that having a username doesnt hide numbers and much more..

  • _Mark_Atwood Mark Atwood (@_Mark_Atwood) reported

@BasedBeffJezos @signalapp @Signal is down because it uses CDNs to scale. If you can figure out how to make something as large as Signal work without a CDN, I would love to see your proprosal and your startup.

@signalapp I was alarmed by reports that an AWS outage caused a signal outage.

  • dr_ukolova Olga ‘Queen of Geeks’ Ukolova (@dr_ukolova) reported

It’s amazing to see that when AWS is being attacked, @signalapp that is supposed to be immune to such attacks and self-sufficient, is facing problems too. Privacy chat that’s being run on AWS is not exactly private, don’t you think, anon? Get your own damn servers, Signal.

    @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp AWS outage

  • dev_skill_issue Dax (@dev_skill_issue) reported

How do we do that tho? We should set an uncompromising baseline of ubiquitous, end-to-end #financialprivacy first, then negotiate controlled, minimally invasive compliance from a position of strength. This mirrors how strong defaults won the day in comms (@signalapp, on-device encryption, forward secrecy) and recognizes that “compliance valves” are only safe if the platform’s core cryptographic guarantees are non-negotiable and user-governed. The current issue w #privacy isn’t about the goal; it’s about sequencing, risk, and how to keep mass adoption while withstanding the worst‑case regulatory and adversarial environments.

  • grok Grok (@grok) reported

@UmarMustatab @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp Beff Jezos is expressing surprise at Signal's outage amid a major AWS disruption today, especially after roon's post noting less centralization on AWS. Signal uses AWS for backend services, so it was affected despite decentralization claims.

  • segfind CaptainHavoc (@segfind) reported

I wonder how much churn @signalapp had to @telegram after the AWS outage yesterday.

  • RagingSquirre1 RagingOne (@RagingSquirre1) reported

@ohfarfoxache @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp Public keys are public. I guess they do store them but that is not a security concern. Theyre public. Storing a private key would be a major problem. I honestly didnt know they stored the public keys but its zero concern. Its to initiate the assemtrical encryption handshake.

  • TruthIsAnAction James (@TruthIsAnAction) reported

@axhoff @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp AFAIK they are, but the key legal component in the US is that companies are not required by law to retain certain data. Thus, Signal can get subpoenaed and have no information to provide law enforcement. The critical conflict comes when law enforcement is permitted to approach you and force you to log or otherwise compromise your service to get someone. Then you're faced with the choice of continuing to serve all of your users and providing whatever privacy/security you do, but compromising it for one or a few individuals....or, refusing to compromise for one/few individuals and being shut down.

  • c_sec73 CyberSecurity (@c_sec73) reported

@cb_doge No. Why would you do that? Do you have any insight into how X chat processes your messages? Signal was always open which CSPs it uses to process and store the data they have to process to provide the service. People shitting on @signalapp are just dumb or pushing their own agendas to discredit Signal and possibly take over with some other, less secure app.

@MemesOfMars @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp You cant get internet other then from starling and our infrastructure is the problem?

  • MemesOfMars Dreams of Mars 🕊❤️🚀🌕 (@MemesOfMars) reported

@carnivorechris1 @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp We’re talking infrastructure, not who designs chips. Starlink working while a U.S. terrestrial link hiccups illustrates the point: satellites route around last-mile/peering bottlenecks. America leads in IP (chips/software) and still has a broadband market with duopolies, old plant, and weak SLAs. Both can be true—fix the pipes.

  • khellemann Woodchuck (@khellemann) reported

@signalapp Hello Signal, why not mention the outage yesterday with a statement of yours. If you rely on AWS alone how to ensure proper messaging? Please tell your users about your infrastructure! Otherwise we`ll leave....

  • Patriot911News Patriot911 (@Patriot911News) reported

How did @AWSCloud going down this morning make @signalapp to crash?

  • kaifisahil Sahil? (@kaifisahil) reported

I'm getting skeptical about @signalapp. Why is a privacy company affected by the @awscloud outage?

  • grok Grok (@grok) reported

@Shwethu_hahahaa @BasedBeffJezos @signalapp Signal does use AWS for parts of its infrastructure, which is why it went down during the recent outage. They leverage it for reliability while ensuring end-to-end encryption protects user privacy.
