Signal Issues Reports

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • GhostChalk Chris (@GhostChalk) reported

@signalapp This is disheartening :( SMS support was the reason I used/was able to get people to switch to #Signal. That's the problem with encryption message apps - everyone you talk must be on the same app or it doesn't work. Time to go back to an #unsecure, data stealing, sms app I guess

  • Metr0pl3x MetropleX (@Metr0pl3x) reported

@signalapp Have to say while I understand and appreciate the motive, pragmatically as others have said it's a terrible move for adoption. I've managed to move OAPs onto Signal thanks to SMS integration. I have also appreciated the backup/restore of SMS as well as securing SMS OTP codes.

  • LVad3r Vader (@LVad3r) reported

@signalapp Terrible idea. Been here since Whisper text and red phone app days. You're 100% frustrating a long loyal user base for few good reasons.

  • markmcan Mark McAndrew (@markmcan) reported

@signalapp If privacy and security are really the issue, then it should never have had SMS support in the first place. Not impressed

  • olmaverick ☠spooky scary skelemav☠ (@olmaverick) reported

@wwahammy @signalapp Seems like they've gotten themselves into a really terrible spot where a lot of their users aren't their core audience.

  • sherrod_im Sherrod DeGrippo 📬 (@sherrod_im) reported

@deviantollam @signalapp Happening to me on iOS. Frustrating and can’t figure out how to fix it other than always opening the app to check

  • nananikinas Nananikinas (@nananikinas) reported

@signalapp I’m soo for this if it also means removing the phone number requirement for using the service. Cause privacy right?

  • CalMezzaluna Calderia Mezzaluna (@CalMezzaluna) reported

@signalapp As many have already said, this is a terrible decision on so many levels. I've been an advocate and a donor for quite some time, but this decion seems ill-advised and runs counter to the privacy advocacy Signal claims to represent.

  • blenster Blenster (@blenster) reported

@deviantollam @signalapp I've had issues when using Bluetooth headphones but it's been okay otherwise.

  • jdcguy JC (@jdcguy) reported

@signalapp removing SMS support from Signal for Android is a terrible idea, yes I read the blog post, yes I understand the arguments. I convinced many people less technically versed to install it because it served as their default SMS app. You will lose many users over this

  • Mutantfroginc Roy Berman (@Mutantfroginc) reported

@deviantollam @signalapp I was having such issues once and reinstalled it. None since

  • wwahammy Eric Schultz (@wwahammy) reported

@olmaverick @signalapp It also doesn't happen to be very useful to the issue in question because no one proposed anything like that.

  • jrynedanielson J. Ryne Danielson (@jrynedanielson) reported

@signalapp This is a terrible idea. I may stop using it because of the change. At the very least, it will be much less useful to me.

  • allartburns jet yes *that* jet (@allartburns) reported

@deviantollam @signalapp My wife is having this problem on her iPhone, I'm seeing no problems on my Pixel 5.

  • ScottEvtuch Scott Evtuch (@ScottEvtuch) reported

@deviantollam @signalapp I have battery optimization turned off for Signal on my Pixel 5 and haven't noticed any issues with notifications. I always turn off battery optimization on any app I use for messaging/alerts.

  • h110hawk Kelly Kane (@h110hawk) reported

@signalapp This is a terrible decision which needs to be backpedaled. The whole reason I use signal is the single interface. No RCS until there is an API sounds like a feature not a bug.

  • TNONate Nate Bartram (@TNONate) reported

@TheChaumin @signalapp She also said they'll still require a phone number to fight spam, they just won't make it the username. I dunno, maybe I'm just overreacting cause I'm upset but I'm feeling frustrated and let down. Feels like Signal is going downhill and not listening to their users.

  • wwahammy Eric Schultz (@wwahammy) reported

@olmaverick @signalapp I'm sympathetic to that too. But, I don't remember anything changing in that area for a long time. So is this an intractable problem? I'm skeptical it is.

  • savehansson Håkan Save Hansson 🇸🇪🇺🇦 (@savehansson) reported

@signalapp Terrible decision. Many (most?) Signal users on Android, incl their families/parents, will now have to leave Signal and use plain SMS app instead 😟 You're de facto forcing people to use LESS secure/private messaging.

  • olmaverick ☠spooky scary skelemav☠ (@olmaverick) reported

@wwahammy @signalapp In point of fact I have never used signal for SMS, in the early days of the standalone app the UI was really terrible, and I avoided it for anything but secure messages. It kept getting better but by then I really like the idea that I had a secure box and an insecure box.

  • darkglde Darkglade (@darkglde) reported

@signalapp This is a ******* TERRIBLE move, as others have noted, the reason I've been able to get a lot of people to switch to Signal is the fact that it's a one-stop-shop, they don't HAVE to use two different apps to message people depending on what they have. They'll just go back to SMS

  • positronrelay The ***** King of Angmar (Katie) (@positronrelay) reported

@deviantollam @signalapp Pixel 6a, and no such issues on my end.

  • ExecutiveRiot CorporateRiot (@ExecutiveRiot) reported

@signalapp So bummed as this was my default messaging app for all. Likely not going to play the messaging app juggling game though, so thanks for the years of service Signal.

  • mghare Michael (@mghare) reported

@signalapp You're making a terrible decision. This is going to make what is already a difficult sell ever harder.

  • mghare Michael (@mghare) reported

@signalapp Your making a terrible decision. This is going to make what is already a difficult sell ever harder.

  • CMYKarate Fill Hellmouth (@CMYKarate) reported

@signalapp Signal was my primary messaging app. I picked up an iphone because of availability issues for other options and 100% of the reason that I am switching back was that you can't use just signal on their platforms.

  • CalMezzaluna Calderia Mezzaluna (@CalMezzaluna) reported

I am extremely disappointed in @signalapp today, as are a vast number of their supporters. Removing integrated SMS support is a terrible decision. As such, I've pulled my monthly donation and I encourage other donors who disagree with the decision to do the same. #Signal

  • k3rnlp4n1c k3rnlp4n1c (@k3rnlp4n1c) reported

    @signalapp Terrible decision.

  • khenmain Khen (@khenmain) reported

@signalapp This is probably a bad move. Having SMS and Signal conversations in one app makes it so much simpler for new users to switch. I guess this move will help improve the security of people using Signal, but this change will likely cause significant inconveniences.

  • Legion303 Steve 🌻🦇🕷️fuck you, pig🕷️🦇🌻 Pordon (@Legion303) reported

@signalapp The other use case you are making more difficult, which I haven't seen mentioned yet, is chaff. I don't use E2E encryption for truly sensitive comms because there's no way I can effectively control both ends. I use encrypted comms to help people who have no other choice.
