Eric (@stargazingdad) reportedI grew up in an abusive home, and one of the few times there was actually peace and quiet in the house was when Star Trek was on. TOS, TNG, the movies, it didn’t matter. For just an hour or two, I knew I could relax a little bit. I loved all of it. For a lot of people, Star Trek means something deeper than just another TV franchise. It represents hope, curiosity, decency, exploration, and the idea that humanity can become better than it is now. That’s part of why the last decade of Star Trek has been so damn disappointing. I really wanted Strange New Worlds to be different. Instead, this new season has become almost insulting. Last episode, you basically copied The Hangover: drunken chaos, missing memories, and everyone trying to piece together what happened. Stupid and boring. This week, infrared light somehow makes everything black and white while the population of a Klingon-controlled planet walks around dressed like they’re in a 1930s detective movie. The entire episode is built around mimicking old film noir. Really? Zero imagination. And next week? The Enterprise crew apparently gets turned into Jim Henson puppets. Seriously? For the love of all things in the universe, what the hell are you doing to Star Trek? This is exactly what I mean by gimmicks. It feels less like anyone is asking, “What great Star Trek story can we tell?” and more like, “What movie genre, comedy bit, or stunt can we force Star Trek into this week?” What makes this even more infuriating is that we finally live in an era where the technology exists to give Star Trek incredible visuals and pair them with genuinely great science-fiction storytelling. You have everything you need to make something extraordinary, and somehow you’re wasting it all on gimmicks. Such a wasted opportunity. You’ve turned Star Trek into a parody of itself and an absolute joke. But hey, maybe that was the intent to begin with. I’m not an impossible-to-please fan. My bar can actually be pretty low. But it’s insulting to watch what feels like increasingly inept and lazy storytelling from people who seem to misunderstand not only what Star Trek is, but what makes a good story in the first place. Star Trek has always experimented. That isn’t the problem. The problem is when the experiment becomes the entire reason the episode exists. At this point, scrap it. Start over. Mind-wipe us and let us pretend the last ten years never happened. Star Trek deserves so much better. @StarTrek @StarTrekOnPPlus @paramountplus

I just went back to streams. Funny how they can manage but Paramount themselves can't. And I've found a good stream too. I can often watch a whole event with no issues.
