@lynlinking @WgarNews There is also a problem identifying what happened to whom. A phone call reveals everything is clear, yet an email says otherwise. Who is responsible for getting the truth out of Optus? And when do they reveal exactly what information was compromised for each individual?

found some old chat transcripts with optus when i first signed up with them last year for a prepaid mobile service. used my medicare card and not my d/l. which is a relief since i've already memorised my number and would hate to get a new one. (i have a thing with numbers ok.)

@Optus I am unable to access My Account online, has been an issue for past 2 days. When will this be addressed?

  • JamesHenstridge James Henstridge (@JamesHenstridge) reported

@joshgnosis Exetel switched from Optus to Telstra's network about a year ago. I had to provide my license number again when activating the new SIM, so presumably they hadn't held on to that data from when I originally signed up. Hopefully they were validating ID with gov rather than Optus.

…wish I was an Optus customer…wouldn’t mind a new drivers license and practical new identity…does a clean credit rating go with that?

  • Markinshire Brads (@Markinshire) reported

How’s this for customer service…I messaged Optus live chat (because you can never get through on the phone) yesterday at 9am to try and find a resolution to a reception issue I have had for weeks. 33 hours later I’m still on the chat and no nearer the issue being solved @Optus

@joshgnosis They haven't told me ****. I'm an ex-Virgin customer & current Optus customer & I haven't received any email or text from Optus. Have I avoided having my data revealed or has Optus ****** up on this as well?

  • stilgherrian Stilgherrian (@stilgherrian) reported

The Canva breach did have 137 million records but most would have been non-Australians and there were no ID documents. My view is that the presence of ID numbers in Optus adds to the seriousness, and you’re down to much smaller datasets before finding anything comparable.

  • ausnotes Powell's Other Glasses (Ausnotes) 🌸 (@ausnotes) reported

@therealdale Seems the government requires them to store it for 2 years which has since passed. Optus has no ability to delete the data. I've been sent through 2 departments and it now sits with the complaint department. Failing that hopefully the TIO can help me.

The Optus fkup proves that privatisation of essential services like this is an EXTREMELY bad idea. What if we were at War and some treasonous oligarch decided it was worth their while selling all our info to the enemy? 1/2
