@byhemechi @Optus The info is sold on for things like fake ids i assume? Years ago someone used my name and birthday with police. Found out when i was asked why i failed to appear in court over assaulting my wife. Never been married.

@Lowry_16 @Optus The email is so ****, it's like "oh don't worry, they don't have your Optus password", meanwhile they got names, addresses, DOB, licence and passport numbers: all the stuff that can be used to apply for credit or ID Optus should pay for credit monitoring for all affected

@Optus how is it that a major data breach has occurred and there's been no direct comms to your customer base on the issue? Going direct to the media is not an appropriate solution. We all know stories are spun by journalists. Not a lot of confidence that things are under control

@masericha @Optus Start a completely different complaint and get the same response, word for word?

I also had to direct the customer support agent to where the FAQ about the breach was on their own website. They also didn't appear to know anything about Optus's own offer to offer third party monitoring for impacted customers.

@stuontheloo @Optus AFAIK their duty is to protect customer data under the 1988 Privacy Act, and I'm sure some skilled lawyer/law firm will find where in the act Optus were negligent

@sassycarrie @Optus I mean I got caught up in the Kiwifarms **** the other week too, I'm becoming a bit of a pro at panicking about my safety. I don't get how media was quicker than sms/emailing all customers, even if there was a "you may not have been a victim of this breach buuut" notification
