  • ToniAussiewoman Toni (@ToniAussiewoman) reported

@virgotweet All I need now is the security digits on the back of your credit card, please 😜 Sorry, sick joke ↑ I think I am also a victim with my phone service provider using Optus lines. I've had 1am SMS about Toll Rd error, fake email from Twitter & Amazon phone call, in under 12hrs

  • Asher_Wolf Asher Wolf (@Asher_Wolf) reported

"Eventually one of the networks it was exposed to was a test network which happened to have internet access." This allowed access to the Optus network from outside the company.

  • ellemcintosh Elle (@ellemcintosh) reported

The data leak at @Optus doesn’t shock me. They canceled my my NBN without contacting me before hand. I pay all my bills on time and I’m the only one on the account. So there is clearly a breakdown somewhere in the company if this is the service they are providing.

  • Thefinnigans Finnigans 💉💉💉💉💉天有道地有道人无道 (@Thefinnigans) reported

If Optus left its "test network" open, then it wasn't a "hack". In the olden days, we in the IT Security called it a giant SNAFU

  • allrite allrite (@allrite) reported

Anyway, Optus can get stuffed. I heard from senior ex-employees that their Singtel owners treated the locals like ****. Hope they are taking some responsibility for this hack.

  • Rioharry9 Shri Gadde (@Rioharry9) reported

@mitchostheleo @Optus FACT IS OPTUS SERVICE IS BECOMING WORSE AND WORST SINCE LAST 2YEARS! EVERYTIME YOU COMPLAIN REGARDING SOME ISSUE THEY TELL SAME AGAIN AND AGAIN SINGLE STORY THEY ARE UPGRADING NETWORKS SINCE 1YEAR! OmG! I REALLY HOPE OPTIS CEO AT LEAST WILL WAKE UP NOW AND FIRE ALL THOSE LAZY!

  • semiosmith Bradley Smith, Wurundjeri land (@semiosmith) reported

@RedJules4 a system that can allow one person to make such a serious mistake is one with built-in vulnerability - that is an Optus problem, not an individual problem

  • hazchem Enjoyer of things. (@hazchem) reported

@GlenCodes @Optus OFFFT. Not even my area of knowledge, let alone expertise and I can see how reckless and stupid this was.

  • cosmicjester cosmic jester (@cosmicjester) reported

That Optus thing sounds stressful and I’m very glad it’s not my problem

  • Asher_Wolf Asher Wolf (@Asher_Wolf) reported

The process allegedly involved opening up the Optus customer identity database to other systems via what's known as an Application Programming Interface, with the assumption that the API would only be used by authorised company systems.
