OK @AlboMP, stob being a halfway house man on the @Optus saga. Actions required: Fast tracked govt supported emergency facility to replace passports, driving licenses and medicare cards etc for the breached. Prepare the invoice for costs and send it to Optus. Do it today.

@domknight @Optus I haven’t been an Optus customer for two and a half years. So I was appalled to get the email. Why were they storing the data of people no longer their customers?

@SquizzSTK So why didn't this OPTUS issue happen across all telco's

@abc730 @ClareONeilMP Yes this was horrendous that Optus left this data relatively unprotected, but the government must take some blame here. Not just because the poor state of cybersecurity laws, but because they require telcos to keep data they don’t actually need (against their own privacy laws).

@optus how are you going to contact me (an ex customer) if my email has changed? Or any person that no longer has a current email with you. I really want to know as it is a requirement for license changes.

Attorney General @MarkDreyfusKCMP has flagged changes to data retention laws, so companies are made to dispose of data when they no longer have a purpose for it. I.e. when a customer leaves a provider like Optus. @9NewsAUS

It has now become public knowledge that @Optus was complaining about the cost of customer data security. It will now have to make more effort to ensure that the data is totally secure. The other Telco's will also have to make sure they aren't cutting security corners #OptusHack

@Optus @RunnerSA18 Make that 24 hours now on you 24/7 message app and NOTHING. Nothing after multiple phone calls either. Truly atrocious service. Optus service what an oxymoron.
