@FreeRangeEggs Your bank knows if you’re an Optus customer and they know if you’re a fraud target. But there are impediments to them helping you if Optus can’t share data.

A little under the breath word I'm glad they caught the optus hacker but it kinda reminds me of Sharon son "zack" his obsession of the "dark web" but then I tell myself "zack isn't stupid to hack a telephone company he would be more credit cards!!!!" Yes I still wonder/care

So, 10.2 million Optus customers will now have their personal data shared with banks and governments without their consent. This is supposedly to help prevent fraud. So much for privacy and individual rights!!!

@abcnews Optus is still the biggest criminal in this story. A telecommunications company with incredibly poor security practices and a very blasé attitude to the safety of their users personal details.

@bluebag_raider @Optus Spoke to them again today and they confirmed I've been hacked. I asked what of my data was leaked so I can re issue. Simple question yet their reply, "we think it was your name and dob but best to be safe" what the hell, they can't even tell me exactly what data of mine was taken

@manjusrii Yep. Just a stupid kid. Nothing to do with Optus failing to adequately safeguard customer data

Loosening privacy laws to help deal with the fallout of a massive telco hack is very much on brand for Australian legislative "cyber security" If only Optus was mandated to retain more sensitive info, then it'd be much easier to work out who was hacked
