Tonight I am super happy not to have been @Optus customer. #OptusHack is a breach where 10million Australians may lose their identity. Why Australia needs the same legislation as Europe and @optus parts with $39m in fines. Directors criminally charged. #auspol

@noreasonspec @stilgherrian @Optus The customer comms person would say “ok, let’s multiply that by 2,000 an hour, 24/7, we will need hundreds of people on the lines (not, we’ve all gone home for the evening). /3

@_sarahbarns @Optus Ridiculous eh? I was affected too - Optus offering ZERO help. I can imagine they’ve got some legal challenges coming their way for such lax security.

@ZiptieZoe dgmw i'm not trying to say optus ~~traumatised me~~ it's just that I work with people who take this stuff extremely serious and you've got this giant enterprise who don't even have their core PII (personally identifiable data) down pat. i'm professionally offended by it lol

@Monocotyledon Without defending Optus, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that they've collated a bunch of info they probably don't need from bad legislation (to protect consumers) which has been exploited by an IT mishap. I wouldn't think the matter is systematic to call for a full review.

@stilgherrian I believe I will suffer loss - replacement docs at least. Rang the number in the press release (dated today): “the cyber security section is currently closed”. I don’t think @Optus has any idea on how to manage this evolving disaster - no incident scenario planning.

The complete failure to offer any type of solution, compensation or assistance from either Optus or regulators is astounding. 10m people affected and the recommendations on how to protect your data simply shifts responsibility. Optus did not protect the data in question.

@rainbowdefault @Optus yeah it's pretty dispointing tbh. i remember how quick & helpful they were on here when i tweeted about wanting to join up with optus, but that has not been the case for actually accessing help for their **** ups
