@StephenJonesMP If customer data has to be kept after we leave the service (I left Optus 2 years ago and I'm still a confirmed victim), surely it can be kept offline? It shouldn't have been accessible. If govt needs my Optus data, it can front up to Optus and look at offline files.

@NickHayden Hi Nick, ID Support NSW is working with Optus to support customers with NSW government-issued credentials, such as a NSW driver licence or birth certificate, if they have been impacted. 1/2

Right now, Optus needs to pay for people to replace their passports & licenses. They also need to pay, further down the track, if or when identity theft occurs due to their errors. That might be an even more significant bill.

@simone_au @Optus This is an organisation that exposed customer and former customer PII via a public unauthenticated API and the claimed the attacker was sophisticated and that Optus was the victim. We're way beyond tone deaf.

@nadinevoncohen @patrickkeneally Only contact I've had from Optus has been apologies for our NBN dropping out. Which is roughly about ten times a day. But hey, who could have foreseen the copper technology solution not being up to the job?

@catedempsey Absolutely. There won’t be any real punishment for Optus. So of course they won’t take it very seriously. If they had to compensate each customer and face heavy fines, they may think twice about hoarding unnecessary data

@_davidlimbrick @CharlieMeade17 I’ve been an Optus Customer for a very long time and I’ve only ever shown a drivers license, fortunately the one they have on file has since expired

@Dom_Nguyen Hi Dominic, ID Support NSW is working with Optus on how to best support customers, please reach out to them for assistance, they are best placed to assist in these circumstances.

SMS 2FA is broken, verifying your identity is broken, the only things left are device/token based authentication and passwords/pins. Contact your bank and tell them that only in-person manual check can verify identity if password is forgotten. #optus

This Optus hack has really put into perspective the significance of me getting drunk and losing my wallet the other week and having to cancel all my cards & DL and get them re-issued. 4D chess move from drunk me if I do say so myself
