@manpageman @Optus Which is why I always thought "Data is the new oil" was a terrible metaphor. Marketers used it to try to say "data powers everything" while oddly forgetting about CO2 and myriad other oil-related downsides

@Optus have been trying to cancel my nbn service since Friday 30th September but cannot get through to anyone on on both the app or phone! Have your call centres also been hacked or did someone leave the phone off the hook. Pleas advise how I can cancel my service?

@Optus Thank you Medina. I’m certainly not shooting the messenger but if I was her being an Optus customer I’d be more concerned about my details being on the dark web than 2 days of no service. Thanks.

@TorSamundsett Yes, BUT they didn't need to keep them longer than 2 years, but they did - we know why. BTW other telcos and many, many other businesses have this sort of data but have invested in good security. Optus' security has been an known issue for those in the industry for YEARS

@MStoove @Optus They will be trying to look like they're in control amd in contact with us individually but, have you ever called Optus before..wait time..they never have enough staff. There are millions of us with breached info.

So I got that dreaded email from OPTUS. So should I go forward and cancel my passport? I’m already taking precautions and cancelling my debit cards and getting a new Medicare number.

@JennaPrice Not having a bank, Google, Apple, Visa or Mastercard a party to every transaction I makem Having the ability to pay when systems invariably go down (see the 2019 bushifres for example). And surely the Optus hack ought to make people wary of going entirely cashless.

@JoshButler Have you seen the garbage that the @Optus app is spewing out to customers trying to get answers (if you manage to bypass the 'systems error' bug and log in)?
