The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is monitoring the dark web amid fears stolen Optus customer data is being sold on internet forums. The telco on Thursday revealed it had been subjected to a massive cyber attack, which has put the data of up to 9.8 million current and for…

    5. Why are organisations not held liable/responsible for putting a consumer at risk. Why doesn't the government provide an ID verification service so that I don't have to share my entire life history with a company just to use it's services #security @Optus

@jplonie @stufromoz @Optus Yeah I'm pretty filthy on these emails too. Where are the actual support information that can assist people to protect themselves? The "oops sorry". KBR sign off should be "got paid a $1m to leave CBA so I can make my mark in telco". There will be a cost cutting catalyst

I had been an Optus customer for nearly 20 years. My ID could have been a 20 year old passport, in which case, expired passport FTW. Or it could have been my licence, in which case I'm ******. @Optus, you need to get your front line staff better equipped to handle this.

My advice to any Optus customer is change your provider today, change all your credit cards with new cards🤔 and as inconvenient as it may be, change your mobile number🙄 As for passports etc get advice from government agencies 😯😮 It's a major breach & don't waste time🙄🥴🥴

@ShaunFerrisOz @Optus I suspected @Optus contact centre would be doing this so haven’t bothered with them. It’s unbelievably appalling that they’re being deliberately generic and obtuse. This beggars belief. Heads should roll for this shocking level of support alone. Rosmarin failing at every turn.

@platinumflyer31 @Optus This. They want us to fix it, they can pay us to do so.

I'm convinced @Optus deliberately gave away my personal information, after making too many complaints about their crap service! #OptusDataBreach #optusfail #classaction

@THE_Russell @Optus If this is true (still speculation), it is damning for Optus. Multiple steps they could have taken to mitigate risk - e.g. requiring authentication on the API, not using production data in test, or at a minimum removing PII. Did no one say “hang on, this doesn’t feel right”?
