Optus needs to pay for everything that was lost not the govt because the govt means taxpayers. Why would we pay for an Optus mistake and a big fat mistake that. If I were an affected Optus customer, I'd be seeing a lawyer.

@tobycmurray As someone who uses passport and Medicare card for all ID - never been asked to provide expiry date of Medicare card. And as we have had them since 1984 it would be pretty easy for a hacker to just keep increasing the last digit. Optus really is costing many depts a fortune !

@cameronwilson I haven’t been an @Optus customer for a decade or more and I got the notification. Omnishambles, I wasted an hour on the phone to them today and got absolutely no answers as to what has been leaked. I guess next step is stand in an Optus store until I get somewhere.

@notabotfr @Alicedkc @Optus In my experience it’s not usually the sec teams fault but an organisational failure that leads to this sort of incident

@Rita_Saffioti That’s 💩 & doesn’t help people who were victims of breaches prior to Optus. Tad rich @MarkMcGowanMP to say that you weren’t aware of it until now. 4 yrs p eople have been unable to get the DL #s changed and have had to suffer in silence. Make it available to everyone 4 a fee.

@ClareONeilMP @AlboMP I have heard nothing from Optus since last Friday’s “oops” email. Not a word! Meanwhile I’ve got zero idea what private information of mine is being used illegally or what potential problems I may encounter in the future regarding use of my data. Not even a bloody text message!

@SkyNewsAust @Optus should pay as a customer I'm disgusted that Optus had failed to keep mine and others personal data secure. To add to that, that Optus refuses to accept financial compensation for all affected by their failure to provide secure storage of customer personal data is a joke.

Seen a few tweeps asking why Optus had **** like Licence numbers. Cast your mind back to 2017 and the Metadata & Data retention laws & all of us in Cyber Sec shouting that it was a ******* bad idea. Anyway, we told you so.

@slsandpet I wouldn't recommend Optus to anyone now, I left because of poor service at least a decade ago. The old saying you get what you pay for is ringing now

@mjrowland68 @BreakfastNews Ive heard nothing from them, but i was a default customer 2.5 yrs ago when VirginMobile switched to Optus. Optus must have my details since the handover. Not a peep from #Optus.
