Optus paid and are hoping the AFP can go all CSI and track down the money using some fancy Matrix-style green characters and cool buzzwords

@THE_Russell @Optus What kind of fruit loop publishes an API with a request that takes only one ID (customer #) without any other authentication, or keys? How did they not notice the high volume of request? Did they not have any monitoring? Who built this IT system?

@_AFoolOnAHill @craigthomler @joshgnosis A great take. Clearly the issue at Optus is too much security!

  • twensor twensor (@twensor) reported

@BobBrace2 @geoffreybw1 @deniseshrivell Heard one punter on radio this morning nearly in tears with stress. Optus really need to get some info out to punters as to what they can do to mitigate risk of identity theft. Problem is, I suspect the answer is not much. 10 million affected? What a massive ***********. #auspol

@abc730 @ClareONeilMP Correct! Every @Optus customer needs to receive an email listing the exact data that was compromised by the #OptusHack so people can prepare.

  • xuliaq xulia (@xuliaq) reported

@THE_Russell @Optus And why is Optus storing customer identity data such as license and passport numbers? #OptusHack

  • pebotuwa anuruddha pebotuwa (@pebotuwa) reported

New South Wales Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello said Optus customers whose drivers licence details had been compromised by the hack should apply for a replacement licence Can @DanielAndrewsMP follow the lead to protect identity compromised Victorians? #optusbreach

  • ClareONeilMP Clare O'Neil MP (@ClareONeilMP) reported

I am incredibly concerned this morning about reports that personal information from the Optus data breach, including Medicare numbers, are now being offered for free and for ransom. Medicare numbers were never advised to form part of compromised information from the breach.
