Evans Electric (@tsport100) reportedA guy moved into a new apartment. Only “official” internet was FTTN NBN — $90/month for a pathetic 30 Mbps down max. He called Telstra and Optus. Both said “5G Fixed Wireless not available at your address.” He checked a cell tower map anyway. Half a dozen towers within a couple km. Bought a GL.iNet GL-X3000NR 5G router + built a DIY 4x4 MIMO LPDA external antenna. Result? 800 Mbps download / 170 Mbps upload. 25x faster. $75/month. Same building. Here’s exactly how he did it 🧵

The GFC was an American housing crisis that had very little to to do with us. The pandemic was an over reaction. They've blown the lot. Money wasted with zero return on investment. Both parties are responsible for this mess and all I see for the future is higher unemployment and a low currency. It's going to be a double whammy. We are already in a per capita recession. The country needs some serious reform and it needs it right now..

Geoff Payne (@geoffrey_payne) reported😒 had FTTP NBN connected 2 weeks, incredibly slow speeds, pages don't load & sound intermittent, NBN website says, any/all issues regarding performance MUST go to ISP, they are charging me for 500 Mb/sec.....I'm receiving 80 Mb/sec download speed currently @NBN_Australia 😞

We just got a generic letter telling us our landline phone will be disconnected in 7 months. We used to have copper line which provided a highly reliable service in emergencies, whether power and internet was on, or not. I recall ringing a (surviving) neighbour in the middle of the Marysville 2009 Black Saturday fires. We had a chat while his smoke alarm was going off and the fire was raging outside. Phone through broadband was hopeless whenever the power or internet went down, which happens frequently. Mobiles are useless whenever the internet goes down, and not long after the power goes off. But those copper wire phones were fantastic. You could actually ring the electricity company when the power was off, and tell them that the power was off and could they fix it. I'm not joining the nbn.

Raymond McKeown (@RaymondKeown3) reported@Rexdinasaur I worked with Conroy on the original NBN & built the first site in Kiama, it was a disaster, it cost Transgrid $10 million, not one of NBN management had ever built a network, they had no idea, never understood the unique properties of Fibre cable, Conroy would simply not listen, one deal he did cost $800 million as a stuff up, I walked away & said to my people, everyone of our competitors will chase this, lets chase the business they ignore.
