Topher Field (@TopherField) reportedI've said time and again that the NBN is a white elephant, and that it would be destroyed by competition... IF competition were allowed. Of course like-for-like competition is NOT allowed... the NBN have a monopoly on wired internet... but guess what? They're STILL being out-competed by the private sector anyway, because wireless technology has come a LONG way fast... After all the tens of billions we've spent, Australia still only ranks 43 on internet speeds (worse on some lists, I'm being generous) and still users are turning to the private sector because the NBN cannot help them where they are. Amazing. Government never makes things better, it only gets in the way of the private sector who WOULD make things better... if the government weren't in the way.

Neil Cambourne (@Neilsy58) reported@NBN_Australia hello , we had a scheduled upgrade in our street in Manly Vale yesterday and since the NBN team left none of us have internet access. Your website says unscheduled outage. Not very good service to be honest

🇦🇺Glenn McDonald (@Glenn_SoilAgro) reportedIf our @NBN_Australia is like this for the Australian census night, our family won’t exist as won’t be able to fill in the online forms… will have to drive down the road for mobile coverage. Can we have our old copper to node connection back?

John45 (@John45OverIt) reported@Batman2242 LOL what a stupid take. that bit of fibre shits on starlink - the current record is 1.02 Petabits per Second (Pb/s). As they say, you get what you pay for. Oh also, what does it cost the consumer for NBN vs Starlink.

Jamie McKendry (@jamiemckendry) reported@moffat14 @TopherField You do know it was the Libs that ****** it up. Labour started the process and as soon as the Libs got in, they put the handbrakes on it and started all this NBN node ****. Fine to blame governments but at least blame the right one

Lamill (@LamillLoL) reportedConstant internet drop outs for weeks, network status always says no outage. Currently down and no end in sight. I need answers!! @NBN_Australia
-
Anthony (@AnthonyPHoran) reported@jarro56 @isaacfloyd13 There was bipartisan support for the NDIS & NBN because they were popular as their projected cost were fractions of what they actually became. The NBN could have been delivered by private sector for fraction of cost & is likely to be obsolete in future.

Brent Hodgson (@BrentHodgson) reported@geofiasco @DHughesy @aaronsmith Aside: Whether the Telstra sale was ultimately a windfall is contested. It raised $60bn to sell the assets, then we spent $60bn on NBN Co just to regain access to the assets sold and duplicate/upgrade the network we sold - and Telstra has paid something like $80-85bn in shareholder dividends along the way. In many respects, NBN shouldn't exist. It should have been the $80-85bn in "shareholder dividends" to the Public Owner that paid for the fibres to be laid - not a $60bn investment after a $60bn sale. But NBN was forced to be created after a now-shareholder-owned Telstra responded to how it might build a national broadband network with a non-compliant 12 page letter effectively saying "we won't - the copper wires are our privately-owned monopoly and we want to protect our market monopoly".

Dwayne (@CtrlAltDwayne) reported@loftwah They didn't even finish the NBN 1.0 so it makes sense. One of my mates had an NBN contract and he got paid stupid amounts of money and he said he'd finish by 2pm, took long lunches and could push appointments by saying he was too busy. Zero oversight. Huge rort.
