@DifficultNerd @stnapAtnaf Sadly not the case. NBN have confirmed with me that we will never get 50 Mbps due to the distance we are away from the first node. They also didn’t replace the aging copper on the main street and line faults is a regular thing to happen.

What disgraceful service @Telstra. Been in new house for more than 2 weeks. Only 4 days of NBN working. Told they would be here on Saturday between 8am and 12pm. Waited all day and then called Telstra to be told NBN will be back on Wednesday. Disgraceful.

@stnapAtnaf @DifficultNerd It’s actually hilarious to see media reports of the NBN struggling. Remote learning/video/working, video streaming, etc, etc is exactly why a proper next-gen network should have been built.

Well, I TRIED watching @abcnews' coverage of the Farrer by-election result (bc sadly @6NewsAU is suffering NBN outage issues). I lasted 30sec. David Speers interviewing Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie. Ugh. 🤮 #auspol #FarrerVotes #FarrerByElection

@eevblog I have both, NBN service stability is far less than Starlink's, so it is my backup. I could probably push traffic through both, did that with Telstra and Optus cable modems back in the day, but Starlink is so fast I haven't needed to bother.

@robb_j_m NBN is free, the ISP is where the charges are and believe it or not it's customer support is why it costs much. The infrastructure costs are not the big cost.

@eevblog Gees this NBN outage is dragging on. Praying for you ! The disruption to business must be massive.

@news_australian Stick it where it fits Malcolm, and your NBN plan for Australia is a piece of crap.

@robb_j_m live beyond NBN only about 150k from Melbourne had dial up originally then adsl2 but no home net for years despite paying for access now only mobilenet & my phone one of many network blocked that was January when irl the roadside letterbox disappeared #offline

  • msignau
    msau (@msignau) reported

@robb_j_m This of course ended up driving the total cost of the NBN through the roof as they had to take on copper lines that had not been maintained properly for over a decade & assemble a franken-network copper, fibre & HFC networks that had massive maintenance costs.

@GeoffWilsonWAM @theAZtrader @ausgov Fully agree. Other than new property development which should still be benefit for housing supply. Poor structural reform that will impact future generations and brain drain Australia. Funding via NDIS / NBN restructure would have been far easier and more beneficial

@techAU @robb_j_m It didn't work for everyone. I'm 1.5km by road from my exchange and yet everyone here has ****** wireless NBN, which manages to be both more expensive and slower than Starlink, with somehow higher pings than sending a signal to space and back. Everyone has Starlink here now.
