  @CertainLogicAI @buildwithmaya @Namecheap Agreed for the validation phase — cheapest thing that ships wins. Where a geo-TLD earns its keep is after you've got signal and want the URL itself doing some work (local SEO, word-of-mouth memorability) instead of just hosting code.

  @Namecheap Turns out, y'all were doing maintenance, with no notice I could find. That should probably be shown on what ever login screen one uses...just a thought. Being 3rd party, IDK how that would work. I'm still talking to them about switching away from Roundcube. They don't know how.

  @Namecheap Oh FFS so it's caused by Right Clicking to Copy the password. If you just double click & "ctrl c" it does not add "Refresh" to the pasted text. I have never ever encountered this bloody nonsense before & so not understand why any developer would think this is acceptable.

  @justbyte_ Namecheap for the cheap first year, then transfer to Cloudflare. Cloudflare is at-cost with no markup, so renewals never jump, about $10.44 for a .com forever instead of ballooning year two. Only catch is you have to use their nameservers.

While Namecheap built its brand on privacy advocacy (e.g., fighting for customer data protection in courts), control now sits largely with a Luxembourg-based PE giant whose incentives are financial returns, not ideological privacy maximalism. The registrant data required by ICANN lives in a system where EU corporate oversight meets US legal demands. In an era of rising data breaches, surveillance, and regulatory flux, relying on any large registrar under PE ownership means trusting opaque boardroom decisions with your identity footprint. Diversifying to independent or privacy-first alternatives reduces single points of failure.

  @sattyyouneed GoDaddy is ****. Has hidden fees and is the most expensive option out there. Porkbun is cheaper than namecheap, almost equal to cloudfare but with namecheap's ease. Never tried Hostinger.

  @prbhtkumr @Namecheap @snigdhasur Went through the Snigdha Sur case, it looks like there is some legality issue with their domain being used in India. Will read more to understand before making any judgement. Ps - I use namecheap for my website domain and it has worked great for me.

  After using @Namecheap's service for well over a decade, they've decided to raise my rates. I'm pretty disappointed. Are there any other good hosting providers that are low cost? I've already tried GoDaddy and their service was trash.
