@DorotheaBaur @aral I know how signal works. It boils down to the point why the other person has your number. But WhatsApp, sSgnal, Telegram all work that way. Signal will get rid of the phone number as main identify soon. But for many people it's the easiest way to find their friends that way

It won't matter if you delete WhatsApp and move to Signal or Telegram or whatever messaging service. If you're on the internet your data is being harvested. If you're off WhatsApp, but you're still on Facebook or Instagram your protest is pointless aii..

@acryptolion Yep, that's the 1 thing in common among a lot of guys I know doing bigger volumes, no social media - and never even had one. Mostly just DMs in Telegram/Skype but then not super active. After a certain level everyone who can help you is a competitor who never will.

I have no issue with Signal or Telegram as platforms but if there’s reasonable grounds to believe that they’re being used for illegal acts or conspiracies law enforcement have every right to seek warrants to investigate.

@ChannelNewsAsia This where does Whatapp lose out to Telegram: 1) can only be installed on 1 device. 2) Cannot install on Ipads. 3) Back ups issue, especially if you're using Iphones, can only back up in Icloud. 4) Soon, privacy issue....What else?

This would be SO easy to solve. These guys aren't coy, they share bomb plans, assassination targets, and explicitly call for violent terror. Again, they're violating @telegram's own terms of service. It's beyond time for the company to act responsibly here.

@telegram after moving to Telegram I got contacted by a lot of strangers with inappropriate content. My privacy setting are restricted to contacts, I have no username, no location chat enabled and no public groups joined. It's so distressing! Never had this problem on WP...

Notably, there's been a mass Exodus to Telegram & you must have joined cos of the recent WhatsApp privacy issues. Be forewarned that there's high level of scammers on that app. Be wise enough to leave channels when added on. And oh, buying from unknown vendors is risky. Bye!

@XSovietNews I thought everyone was leaving Whatsapp to telegram and other platforms due to them changing their privacy settings. Been big with Elon Musk tweeting about the Signal app. Could also be due to Parler shutting down but I think a lot is related to Whatsapp. Might be wrong

@BaumCarsten @claudiorlandi We trust telegram about them securely maintaining the server-side keys, there is no difference in trusting whatsapp about key-generation. It all boils down to trust. You most of the time, need a trustful entity in the system. Once you assume trust, encryption is encryption.

I assume that >50% of your personal chat everyday is with your partner. And it also wouldn't have problems that a typical messaging app (like Telegram) has - the chicken egg problem - no friends, no use and no use, no friends.

@itsfoss2 Signal reported security issues and wouldn't install on Mint 20.1, while Telegram's registration process looks like a phishing scam. I am not sure either is more secure.
