@brookeCjacobson @Optus It was so terrible it was actually insulting, wasn't it? No instruction for those who aren't super savvy with this stuff, either. The data they have can be used to open bank accounts FFS!

  • KimHDRoberts Henry's Cold Shoulder. (@KimHDRoberts) reported

@SquizzSTK Hang on, this was a massive failing of a corporation. Why does the comms minister have to assure consumers that they’re safe? That’s an Optus problem, not a government problem. The main thing the government should be doing is calculating the severity of the fine Optus gets. FFS.

  • NotSoTravelled Wattle the day bring - another Spikey Sewer Rat (@NotSoTravelled) reported

@R_Chirgwin @franmurrell1 Interesting to hear on RN that Optus have previously had privacy issues, and were under Privacy Commissioner supervision. Maybe someone should ask them why the information wasn't encrypted given the previous issues.

  • stilgherrian Stilgherrian (@stilgherrian) reported

@Leighlo @arielbogle Well, yes, that’s the whole point of encryption. But let’s say data in a database is encrypted. Good But this means nothing if The Bad People™ gain access to the staff dashboard that decrypts that data so it can be used. This is a hypothetical example. Dunno what Optus had.

@UmenoUsagiCh It’s probably worse. You can cancel cards. Just been told by Optus that my and my husband’s info including ID info has been stolen.

  • Tiger2047 Tiger2047 (@Tiger2047) reported

@thebalmainboy @Optus I've been getting signal drop outs.

  • Guyro_Gearloose Guyro Gearloose (@Guyro_Gearloose) reported

@LennaLeprena I’ve got an Optus pre-paid phone. I’ve received no text or notification from them about the cyber hack. I did get a text for being a loyal customer and offering me an extra 120 minutes talk time valid for 5 days if I recharge with $30 dollars or more.

  • NathanLee Nathan Lee (@NathanLee) reported

@Qldaah Some don't even have separation between ****/non **** for networks. So optus should be praised for having that concept of a test network compared to some shockers of companies out there that just have "a network for everything"..

  • catachretical Rob O'Connor is reading again (@catachretical) reported

@RoyceRk2 I am waiting to hear from my mobile provider. They used the Optus network until a year or so ago. No word yet on whether data from other providers may have been hoovered up.

  • AnnaBarbauld Anna Barbauld (@AnnaBarbauld) reported

@australian Are providers (Vaya) that operate off #Optus network at risk? #auspol #telecommunications
